Vocabulary -- know industry standard terminology for theatrical equipment and processes
Types of stages --- includes history of development of theatre
Equipment and supplies --- basic knowledge of types of equipment . Advanced: familiarity with products, brands, suppliers, alternative materials
Safety - shop safety, theatre, stage and house, firecodes, hazards, equipment that can kill you.
Protocols --- how to use, store, troubleshoot equipment; communication; stop list
Theatre hierarchy - who does what?
Lighting --- instruments, lamps, hanging, focusing, designing, purpose of light, elements of light, building cues and creating submasters, the physics of light, color, light plans and light plots
Sound ---- purpose of sound, elements of sound, microphones, patching, the soundboard, equalization, the physics of sound, designing, recording and playback, sound plot
Scenery --- purpose of scenery, curtains, set design, types of plays, levels and balance, soft goods, Styrofoam, use of materials, periaktoi, soft flats, studio flats, wagons, platforms,working with a director, measurement, construction, use of tools, scale drawing, ground plans, models, shifting scenery
Properties --- kinds of props, buy/rent/pull/ build, prop table, rules
Costuming ---working with the director and lighting designer, purpose of costuming, buy/rent/pull/build, research, morgue, fabrics, creating a show, measuring actors, sewing, making a pattern
Makeup and Hair --- purpose of makeup, how makeup behaves, creating a morgue, materials and products, prosthetics, using crepe hair, creating a character, wigs
Special Effects --- pyrotechnics, practicals, snow, rain, transformations
Practical Application and Practice: Urinetown, The Musical ----March 8 – 17. Work on one of the crews is required.
