New vocabulary: la madre, el padre, la amiga, el estudiante, la estudiante, el hermano, la hermana, el vecino, la vecina, el primo, la prima, el abuela, la abuela, ( la madrastra, el padrastro, el hermanastro, la hermanastra) la familia, el equipo (de futbol americano) (mother, father, friend, student, brother sister, neighbor, cousin, grandfather, grandmother stepmother, stepfather, stepbrother, stepsister, family, team
*Concept: collective nouns ( team and family are SINGULAR even though you think of them as multiple people. THE WORDS are singular. Families and teams are plural. When you use family in a sentence, it will take the HE SHE IT ending on the verb.
*Concept: when you want to say parents or friends including males and females or cousins including males and females or brothers and sisters together, the MASCULINE PLURAL is used.
Ex. Mis abuelos = my grandparents
Now practice using the he-she-it and they forms of the verbs.
Pantomimes: Team 1 and team 2 team 3 and team 4. Stand in rows 1 & 2 across from one another and 3 & 4 also. One at a time, the odd numbers strike a pose as if he/she is doing one of the actions we are studying. The even number across from him/her must say what he/she is doing: ex -- Josh canta. Then switch up. Come back to classroom and have 2 to 4 people mime an action and the class must say what THEY are doing.

ANNOUNCE TEST ON FRIDAY -- OVER INTRODUCTIONS, VERBS - INFINITIVES AND ENDINGS, NOUNS - CLASSROOM THINGS AND PEOPLE, PREPOSITIONS EN, DE CON , ALSO USE OF HAY, DAYS, DATES, NUMBERS
Understanding essential questions: Students should write, as a check-up, 3 expressions that are completely different in Spanish and English and 1 general concept about nouns and 1 general concept about verbs and how they are different. ( names, ages, liking things, gender or agreement and subject and action all one word) How about a cultural difference about talking to different kinds of people?
Students who have mastered endings:
Interpersonal communication: Work with 1 or 2 partners to create a conversation. You are students from all over the country on a bus to a weekend retreat in the mountains of Colorado. One of you lives here but the other is from away. Get to know the one or two people you are sitting on the bus with. Practice speaking and then you will present in front of the class. ( Be sure to use your introduction questions and answers and then talk about what you, your friends, your family do or like to do for fun and what you do or like to do in school. Use a variety of verbs and endings, so you can practice. Don't forget that you can say WHEN you do things using days and months.) You might need the word BUT = PERO.
ex. Jamie: I ski with my family in January, February and March.
Rob : My family doesn't ski, but we like to bike.
Students who need more work on endings:
review and reteach and remediate using the quiz.

This is a ready made verb form "gusta" and all we add is the "To __________" THERE a:WAYS has to be a verb with an ending from the chart in a sentence - always! There may be more verbs, though -- but they will be in the iNFINITIVE form. more on this later. For now, just remember: the GUSTA is the HE SHe It form of gustar and if you like to do something

IN CLASS -- present conversations ( may extend into Monday) 20 pts for daily work. 9 to 16 pts as assessment of progress. see parent portal.
