FRIDAY: work with past tense endings. DECIR, DAR and VENIR
sentence of the day:
I don't know what time Jose usually gets up, but he has to attend a meeting very early tomorrow. The problem is that it's 11:30 and he just went to bed! or.... ( he has just gone to bed)
SSR with Children's books: Take another look at the 4 charts on the board --again, these are the past tense endings. Notice all the accents! Can you find some in your book? Do you recognize the verb stem? What's the verb? Where in the chart is the ending that you see on the end of the verb? So who did the action? Say the meaning.
New verbs:
Decir-- to say, to tell,
Venir--- to come
Dar to give
Look at the conjugations of these verbs. How are venir and decir alike? What other verb do they resemble?
Next step:
We tell somebody something. Or we say something to somebody. We give somebody something. Or we give something to somebody.
How would we say: I am giving a book to Samantha? Mom tells my sister a secret. Which is the direct object of the verb? So what is "Samantha? "my sister"? how about I am not saying anything. ( remember your double negative)
Speak a sentence using one of these new verbs.
PREPARE for our next Opposites Game:
put these words on cards:

Review the verbs that you worked with ( infinitives, oddities....) + the three new verbs from today --
I call them "the dirty dozen" (it's a great movie that you should watch!)
Keep reviewing these verbs so that you really know them cold! We'll be working with them in a special way soon. Here they are again:
estar, ser, ir, hacer, poder, poner, venir, tener, decir, dar, ver, querer.
remember that decir means to say or to tell -- sometimes it makes more sense to say "say "and sometimes "tell". Your choice.
Remember that querer means "to want, wish, like or love" Remember that we don't use gusta for people. We don't use querer to say we love chocolate.
check your book p.86 -- to review SER and ESTAR - two verbs that mean to be, 2 ways to say "I AM, IS, THEY ARE, etc. USE ESTAR to say how you're feeling and where you are. It' s for location and condition or state of being. SER is for definition, physical characteristics, personality traits.
