Quiz over vocabulary from last week -- seasons, weather. 10 minutes
Columbus Day ---- Thank Christopher Columbus for " Pirates of the Caribbean"! 20 minutes
Lesson: When we say somebody likes to do something and we say WHO that somebody is, we have to remember that we are changing the structure of what we are saying when we go into Spanish. We are now saying that TO DO SOMETHING IS PLEASING TO SOMEBODY.
Le gusta bailar = it is pleasing to dance My friend likes to dance = it is pleasing TO MY FRIEND to dance. TO MY FRIEND is a prepositional phrase. Prepositional phrases need A PREPOSITION. The preposition TO is "A" in spanish. So My friend likes to dance would be= Le gusta bailar a mi amigo. or A mi amigo le gusta bailar. Or even Le gusta a mi amigo bailar. It doesn't matter what order you put the "legos" in -- just keep the
( le gusta) together, the prepositional phrase (a ___whoever) together and the( infinitive).
Le gusta and les gusta + a _________ nos gusta + a ______________y yo
Work with partners to practice this week's work with a game: Partner A writes and then speaks a sentence about somebody doing something or liking to do something. ( use gusta and verbs). They then ask: ?Como es? or ?Como son? Partner B then describes the person accordingly. ( use the verb SER and an adjective) Switch roles.
Partner B must be able to use the correct form of SER, according to who Partner A is talking about. Partner B must also make the adjective AGREE with the person who is being talked about 20 minutes
Let's hear some exchanges aloud.
This will make a good speaking/listening quiz.
