Thursday October 3 reflexive verbs ( Chapter 2A, especially p. 80)
Lesson: Objective: to be able to tell what we do every day to get ready to go out. What sets of pronouns do you know in Spanish? When are they used? ( with gusta ) Do you know what they mean?
Mirror mirror!
Pass around the mirror. Whom do you see? Whom does you neighbor see. Get a partner and both look in the mirror. Whom do you see? Look at your neighbors both looking in the mirror. Whom do they see? Who am I looking at when I look in the mirror, tell me.
Your answers above were, myself, herself or himself, ourselves, themselves, yourself ( Senora). These are reflexive pronouns. These pronouns reflect the action back on the do-er of the action. In other words, the subject and the object are the same person! EXAMPLES: I wash myself. I bathe myself. I shave myself. I wake myself up. I put myself to bed. I get myself up. I dress myself.
Here are the reflexive pronouns in Spanish. Which of these are the same as ones you already know?
Let's see how we use them with reflexive verbs and how they mean something different when we do.
banarse ( this n is an nye, with a tilde.)
lavarse la cara, lavarse las manos
levantarse
acostarse (ue)
despertarse (ie)
ducharse
vestirse (i)
cepillarse los dientes
arreglarse el pelo
note: In Spanish, we use THE instead of MY when we talk about our body parts! Another difference between Spanish and English!
Now let's see how we use these verbs:
ducharse -- to shower myself, to get showered, to take a shower, to shower -- any of those meanings.....
Now we'll conjugate it to say "I take a shower" ( ducho ) and we'll take the "se" off the end and choose the reflexive pronoun to match the subject (I) ...( myself) , right? (me) AND now run that little pronoun around to in front of the verb! me ducho. That's it!
Pues, bueno, a ver......for starters!
el LUNES el 7 de octubre practice talking about your daily routine; QUIZ chapter 1B words ( actividades extracurriculares)
Review a las # to tell at what time something happens.
introduce: primero, luego, antes, despues
Now talk about your morning routine. Tell a partner what you do in the morning. Tell what time you wake up. What do you do first? Then? Afterwards?
Talk about going to bed. ?Que haces antes?
el MARTES el 8 de octubre practice talking about your daily routine; reflexives in infinitive form.
sentence of the day: On Thursday, I am getting up later than normal because i don't have to go to school.
As yesterday, practice with a partner, exchanging information about your daily routine. Ask questions of your partner.
Listen well to your partner so you can tell us what your partner does in the morning. At night?
What do you both do the same?
What happens when we use the reflexive verb in the infinitive form, such as "I have to take a shower" ?" Do you want to take a shower or take a bath?"" Do you prefer to take a shower."" Can I wash my hands/" "Where can I wash up?"
Answer:
Leave the pronoun attached to the end of the verb, but change it to match the speaker: Tengo que ducharme. ?Quieres lavarte los manos?
here's a hint: INFINITIVES- not in- a-sentence have NOBODY involved. They are simply vocabulary words. When we use the verb in a sentence, a person is involved, and then we change the -SE on the end to match the person, even when we use the infinitive. The pronoun attached to the end will match the ending of the conjugated verb used with the infinitive:
I want to wake up ( quiero despertarme)
BLOCK DAY! verbs as object of prepositions; writing practice
