Bienvenidos! Welcome back from vacaciones! We have 2 1/2 weeks until final exams! let's review what we have studied. First:
sentences of the day to refresh.
My family likes to walk in the mountains when it is cool and sunny in the fall.
Sometimes we go to Glenwood Springs and we swim, walk in town and buy art.
What we review here:
1)we like something in English and that structure completely changes in Spanish. "My family" doesn't do anything in the spanish structure.Instead, something "is pleasing TO MY FAMILY -- so my family becomes a prepositional phrase instead of the subject of the sentence.
2) weather expressions
3) the letter "enyay" ( I can't make the "tilde"~ over the n on this computer! -- the squiggly line on top of an N that makes it sound like ny in canyon. Use for monta~nas, a~nos, ma~nana y oto~no.
4)When we say we do three things, remember that in Spanish, all three are in the WE form, even if I didn't say WE three times.
Students who are far ahead may do a reading or writing assignment.
HOMEWORK: To review for the final -- at home you should make a list of all the prepositions we have studied and write a phrase using each one. due tomorrow . 10 points or 0 points.
Tuesday:
To review for the final, in class, make a list of all the verbs we have studied. Sort them into ar - er - ir. Sort the irregular verbs into their own groups.
At home, make flashcards with the conjugation of the irregular verbs and 2 each of the regular ar, er, ir verbs.
Sentence of the day
Are you going to school today? My brother and I have my parents' car.
What we review here:
1)remember to ZOOM OUT and see what's happening in a sentence before you jump in and start translating words. ARE is a helping word we need to ask a question in English and it is not your verb in this sentence. ignore it.
2) possession in Spanish -- there is no 's in Spanish, so we restate my parents' car as the car of my parents.
3) HOY = today and HAY = there is, there are ( a handy verb!)
WED/THURSDAY
Use textbooks and go through the chapters, looking at grammar and vocabulary -- 30 minutes.
Then: practice writing, speaking and reading
Read pp 90, 114 and 138.
Writing: The Rotary Club of Evergreen has asked you to host a high school student from Bolivia for a week in June. Write an introductory letter to him to find out something about him. He should know what to expect when he arrives, so tell him something about yourself, your family, friends, school and what he might look forward to during his visit.
Speaking: Individual conversations with the teacher. questions, answers, elaborations.
homework:
using SER and ESTAR ------ write 5 sentences using each verb. Use a variety of forms (persons, subjects)
Friday November 30
Don't forget to say RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT when you wake up tomorrow morning -- before you say anything else.
Continue with the writing and reading -- p. 114 and the writing prompt above. Do your own work, so we can see if you have any confusion about anything. When you take the final, it will be an important grade. This is s DIAGNOSTIC tool. Find out NOW, for free, what you need help with.
Also review of TO BE = Is , ARE, AM, etc. The problem seems to be understanding that" to be" is irregular in English and making the connection in English between the forms and the verb infinitive.
MONDAY DEC 3
Students should complete the writing or reading assignments. Go over the work that was turned in on Friday and make corrections. Have students explain the correction. Students that finish should begin reading about whales and dolfins.
Tuesday -- finish up reading and writing -- turn in
Wed/Thursday -- conversation
