TUESDAY AFTER SPRING BREAK
review IR (Completely irregular: VOY VAS VA VAMOS VAN see the pattern though?) SALIR< < VENIR> ESTAR* these are first person irregulars which means they are perfectly regular with their stems and endings EXCEPT in the I form. Then they're weird. Most have a " g", like TENGO. Tengo comes form TENER and should, if it were regular be TENO, BUT IT"S NOT!!!! And SALIR is SALGO, then sales, sale, salimos and salen. VENIR (to come) is VENGO, vienes, viene, venimos, and vienen, -- just like tener, but an IR verb. ESTAR is a bit different because of the accents: Estoy estas' ( accented a) esta', estamos, estan')
also, review LLEGAR, to arrive, because kids are getting it and salir mixed up.
---- A donde vas durante las vacaciones? A donde va tu familia durante las vacaciones/ A donde van Uds. tu y tu familia durante las vacaciones? ( How does the verb change when you answer each of these questions?)
Talk with a partner about your spring break. We cannot talk in past tense yet, so we will speak in the present tense and say what you are doing on your vacacion. If you didn't go anywhere, just say you did not leave from Evergreen and say what you do. For all trips, say when you leave, arrive home, what you do, why you visit that place, etc.
FIESTA
Celebramos! Let's celebrate! We will use everything we have learned -- food, inviting someone to do something or go somewhere with you, at what time, days of the week, possession ('s), our beginning vocabulary - verbs about activities we do --- to talk about parties!
WHAT YOU KNOW AND WHAT YOU CAN DO.....
You know lots of vocabulary and the structures. Can you talk about a party ( una fiesta) that someone is having and then invite someone to go with you? Can you accept or decline the invitation and give your reason?
Hay amigos, familia, comida y bebidas, la musica y actividades en las celebraciones.
!Vamos a hacer una fiesta! (WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A PARTY!
Work with the following questions and answer using vocabulary you already know.
Que comida hay en la fiesta? Bebidas?
Quien quiere invitar a la fiesta?

Now work up these speaking assignments:
Ask someone to go to a party with you. Explain when, where, what will be going on at the party.
You have just been invited to a party. Thank the person and tell them you’re sorry and that you can’t go because you have to do something else.
Thank the person and say you’re sorry and tell them that you don’t want to go because of the way you are feeling.
Talk about a family party that you plan to attend. Tell a friend all about what food and activities there will be.
Between April 3 and April 12, Sra Arniotes was absent. Below are the plans which were given to the substitute teachers. Some was done in some classes, some not.... We will do our best to catch everyone up so everyone has all the skills and vocabulary they should have. IT'S ALL GOOD PRACTICE TO PREPARE FOR OUR FINAL EXAM........
Put the following sentences on the board ONE AT A TIME in English for the students to try to write in Spanish. After giving them five minutes or so, have them trade papers and have their friends read what they wrote and circle mistakes. Hand them back and have original students make corrections if they can. Then pass the paper to a different person and have them circle any mistakes. Pass back to original writer for final corrections.
This is where you have some room to have 2nd period catch up ---- periods 1 and 3 can do more of them.
Once the final corrections have been made, write the correct Spanish on the board for the students to copy and compare. Do only one sentence at a time.
A barracuda ( cognate ) eats Nemo’s mother and his siblings.
Una barracuda come la madre de Nemo y sus hermanos.
Nemo wants to go to school.
Nemo quiere ir a escuela.
Nemo’s father is looking for Nemo.
El padre de Nemo busca Nemo.
Dory and Marlin are swimming to look for Nemo.
Hint: Dory and Marlin are swimming (for) to look for Nemo.
(they are doing something IN ORDER TO do something else.)
Dory y Marlin nadan para buscar Nemo.
FYI – There are large frames on the left already that are for a specific structure called a “passarelle” which goes in front of our stage to create an acting space there. That should just stay there or in that general area. They are a self-contained and specific “kit” if you will.
You won’t see these guys again until Thursday for a block period.

SPANISH WED ( period 2) / THURSDAY ( period 1 & 3)
*****
presentations. Give students access to computer and turn on projector for them. Source search – computer.
**** After presentations: 15 – 20 minutes
1 minute free –write in English:
For 60 seconds, write in English about a party you are going to have. Tell where and when and who is coming. Then invite your friend.
5 minutes max – write in Spanish:
For up to 5 minutes, express what you wrote in English in Spanish.
Find a partner.
PARTNER 1 will have 1 – 2 minutes to NOT READ, but speak what you wrote to your partner.
PARTNER 2 will have 1 -2 minutes to NOT READ, but speak what you wrote to your partner.
Now choose 2 students who were not partners:
Choose one of them to speak NOT READ an invitation to a party to the other. Partner 2 should respond as they wish – yes, I want to come to your party. Thank you. Or no, I want to come but I can’t. Thank you.
After the exchange, students should evaluate each other, helping each other by gently pointing out mistakes and praising good work.
**** about 3 – 5 minutes
Take a few minutes and write down your assessment of how well you are speaking and understanding Spanish. Include what you think your strongest skills are and what you need more work on.
****remainder of period: READING
Distribute small storybooks which are in basket on ventilator( black covers, about the mystery in the mural by Picasso) . Students can work in pairs to read and translate as far as they can get. They should write out their translations. They began these some time ago and can pick up where they left off. If they are not in the same place as their today partner, they need to back up to wherever the further behind partner was.
YOU WILL CONTINUE THIS ON FRIDAY.
Please tell students that they are accountable for all this work when I return and that they can expect to demonstrate to me their progress over the past 2 weeks. I will check notes, their writing, ask them to do these speaking exercises for me and show me their translations. I also expect them to know the vocabulary of family members and the places where you can have a party.
