OUR APRIL LESSONS will be about When we ( and our parents ) were children
*We will continue to acquire vocabulary and learn when and how to use present tense, preterite tense, imperfect tense and the fake future ( IR A infinitive).
*We will continue to practice our irregulars.
*We will continue to use our commonly known vocabulary to express ourselves and try to express what we want to say differently than we might say it in English in order to use vocabulary and grammar that we know.
*We will keep reading and speaking, writing and listening.
*We will read children's books and watch Los Increibles and talk.
*We will use chapters 4A and 4B in our textbooks for vocabulary. There will be NO NEW grammatical structures.
WED/THURS April 2/3 BLOCK introduce new vocabulary in context, review imperfect tense.
Use p. 197 of textbook to practice using past tense -- why imperfect in all these?

FRIDAY
period 1 --- vocabulary
period 1 and 4 --- read pp 202-203
period 2 LOS INCREIBLES
intro the rest of the words from the list so you can say:
where/how did Mr and Mrs Incredible meet?
There are 3 words that mean" time" in Spanish. They are used differently.
el tiempo --- time ( abstract, general -- We have time.. Time flies.)
la hora ---- time ( hour ) what time is it ( what hour is it? what time does the movie begin?)
la vez ---- time (occurrence --- how many times did you eat at that restaurant?)
MONDAY April 7 ---- La Fa'bula del Grillo y el Jaguar
Students should get textbooks and open to pp 202-203 and continue to read the fable they began on Friday. They should pay close attention to the new words they got last week as they come across them in the story. After they finish, have them tell you the story in English -- call on as many students as you can to tell part of the story. You can ask what certain things mean, because you don't know Spanish ( even if you do, play along) and they should tell you what something means and how do they know it means that.
If you still have time, have students write in their notebooks the sentences that contain the new vocabulary words, underlining the words.
TUESDAY APRIL 8 ---- Los Increibles
Period 2 --- already saw the movie to this point. Go directly to the writing assignment.
Period 1 and period 4 ---- watch The Incredibles in English Language with Spanish subtitles. Tell students that they will have to write out a summary of what happens up to the point you stop the movie. Show movie up until Mr. Incredible whistles after ElastiGirl and says something about putting the bad guy out for trash pickup.
Then give the students GOLPEAR - to hit and ROBAR -- to rob and tell students to use these words plus new vocabulary they got last week, plus all the other words they know and write something like the summary below IN SPANISH: It is fine to just translate this summary if they want to.
Students, If you use my summary, I have identified things like direct objects and indirect objects for you. Remember when using indirect objects, you have to use the pronoun, even if you use the person's name or a noun. Decide as you go whether to use imperfect or preterite. Write on your own. After writing, share your writing with a partner and make corrections on each other's work. You should turn in a PERFECT paper, free of errors. Look below the summary to see what the * and + and # mean. No dictionaries. No cell phones/translators.
GOLPEAR - to hit and ROBAR -- to rob
* direct object which is person, so use personal A
+ direct object pronouns: go before conjugated verbs, attach to infinitives
#______ indirect objects ( use pronouns always. If the indirect object is a noun add "a" with the noun and still use the pronoun in front of the verb)
WED/THURSDAY Spanish 2, 4 BLock periods ( 100 minutes)
continue Tuesday's work. Collect finished writing.
Distribute Lazarillo de Tormes ( blue folder on my desk in the folder holder) and dictionaries.
Students can work alone or with a (1) partner to decipher chapter El Arca del Cura and the next one as far as they can get. Write it out in their notebooks. First figure it out, read it out and THEN write it out in perfect English. Please remind students to notice vocabulary and the structures we have studied as they come across them, in use, in the reading.
FRIDAY ---- Speaking
Watch a bit more of Los Increi'bles. Pretend that you are watching with a new friend who speaks only Spanis and that there are no subtitles. So, every so often you have to stop the movie and explain to them what is going on.
