8 enero Bienvenidos!
Welcome back. We have to spend some time reviewing because Mrs. Warren and I now have" blended families". We will spend until the 17th making sure everyone is up to speed, back in the saddle, caught up and AT LEAST KNOWS WHAT VOCABULARY OR STRUCTURES THEY ARE MISSING, so they can get help and scramble a bit to get caught up. This is a good time to strengthen your weak spots from last semester before we plunge into our second semester unit.
After a pep talk about starting strong, wanting to learn and taking responsibility for your own learning, we played WORD TENNIS with a partner to get back in the groove with our vocabulary.
HW FOR TONIGHT IS TO LIST AS MANY SPANISH WORDS AS YOU CAN, IN YOUR NOTEBOOK, IN TWO MINUTES.

10 enero practicamos, jugamos y aprendemos "REFLEXIVES"
?Cuantas palabras escribiste a noche?
We practiced some numbers by answering this question.
We talked about listening in Spanish and not worrying about every word. Instead LISTEN for important signposts like ISTE which tells you YOU DID something ( it is a past tense ending in the tu form) and of course you hear escrib..... And the question Cuantas ( quantity). And you use context as well..... what are we talking about?
THEN a quick review of mucho (x4) and saw that the question word CUANTO does the same thing. It agrees with whatever the thing is we are asking how much / how many about. eX: Cuantas palabras escribiste?... Cuantos amigos tienes?.. Cuanto tiempo necesitas? Cuanta leche quieres?
More play with our vocabulary words .. Memory game.
Presented this sentence|. Identifiy the reflexive verbs. Use the mirror test.
WHEN I GET UP IN THE MORNING, FIRST I SHOWER AND GET DRESSED. I HAVE TO DO MY HAIR AFTER I EAT BREAKFAST. THEN I LEAVE MY HOUSE AT 7:00 (in order to) TO ARRIVE AT SCHOOL ON TIME.
which of the verbs in the sentences are reflexive -- that is, the receiver of the action is the same as the doer of the action? (hint: there are 4 reflexive verbs and 3 non-reflexive verbs)
for homework, learn the words we played with this week and see if you can make the sentence above in Spanish.
MONDAY JANUARY 13 LEARN/REVIEW REFLEXIVE VERBS +......
THIS LESSON IS A REPEAT. gO TO oCTOBER 3, 8, 9/10 TO FIND THE ORIGINAL LESSONS

VERBS AS OBJECT OF A PREPOSITION ( BEFORE, AFTER, IN ORDER TO)
tuesday January 14 practice reflexives - review preterite and imperfect tense. Also reviewable by going to website October/November for lessons.
Today we are reviewing preterite and imperfect tense endings. When do we use each? What are the irregulars?
Let's talk about our daily routine this morning. Que hiciste? A que hora te levantaste? Use all the verbs. Use some of the verbs in the infinitive form. Use before or after to make an interesting sentence. EXAMPLE:
This morning I woke up at 5:00 but I didn't get up until 5:30. First I took a shower. I wanted to take a bath but I didn't have time.I got dressed and ate breakfast before doing my hair and putting on makeup. Then I brushed my teeth and left the house at 6:30 in order to arrive at school at 7:00.
This short speech about what I did this morning is in the past tense. I can use preterite and / or imperfect. Do I have a "set- up" for a "story"? Do I have description? Is it a straightforward expression of actions that were done and over with?
Practice asking your partner what time they woke up? What did they do first, get dressed or eat breakfast? What time did they go to bed last night? Do they take a bath or shower before they go to bed or after they get up in the morning?
WED/THURSDAY January 15/16 review review
Begin with some verbs ---- to go = ir I go = VOY I am going = VOY I do go = VOY Am i going = VOY? ( so remember, again that there are no helping verbs in our Spanish world right now. Helping verbs in Ebglish are taken care of by putting the ending on the verb. So all you need is WHATS THE ACTION? WHO'S DOING IT?) Continue----- I went = fui I used to go = iba I was going = iba
Hacer - to make Hago, I make hice I made haci'a I was making
hacen they make hicieron they made haci'an they were making, they used to make
HOMEWORK PRACTICE! SELECT ( ESCOGER - our new verb: to choose, to select) VERBS THAT YOU NEED TO LEARN AND PLAY WITH THEM AS ABOVE. HAVE DIFFERENT PERSONS DOING THEM IN THE PRESENT TENSE, THEN THE PRETERITE TENSE AND THEN THE IMPERFECT TENSE.
NOW A LESSON ABOUT HOW TO SAY HOW LONG YOU'VE BEEN DOING SOMETHING..................
THIS IS ANOTHER TIME WHEN THE ENGLISH EXPRESSION OF SOMETHING DOES NOT LINE UP WITH THE SPANISH ( OR ITALIAN ) WAY OF SAYING IT.
WE SAY: I'VE BEEN STUDYING SPANISH FOR TWO YEARS.
IN SPANISH ( ITALIAN ) WE SAY " IT MAKES TWO YEARS THAT I AM STUDYING SPANISH"
OUR TEMPLATE IS IT MAKES SOME AMOUNT OF TIME THAT SOMEBODY DOES SOMETHING.
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT MAKE THAT SOMEBODY DOES SOMETHING?
HACE SOME TIME PERIOD QUE PRESENT TENSE
HACE NEVER CHANGES, NO MATTER WHO WE ARE TALKING TO OR ABOUT.
HACE SEIS MESES QUE EL SR. ALSUP ES EL JEFE DE EHS.
HACE DOS ANOS QUE ESTUDIAS ESPANOL.
HACE TRES DIAS QUE SUS PADRES ESTAN EN PARIS.
?CUANTO TIEMPO HACE QUE MARCO ES UN MIEMBRO DEL CLUB DE IMPROV?
Can you express this conversation in Spanish?
--What time is your aunt leaving?
--She has to be at DIA at 4:00.
--OK. Do you want to eat at my house afterwards? We can play my new videogame.
--Thanks, but I can't. I didn't do my homework beciase Aunt Mae was here, so (por eso) I am going to study tonight.
or try this: --Thanks but I haven't done my homework for two days because Aunt Mae was visiting.
Buscar -- to look for buscar a Jose = to look for jose ( personal a, because Jose is a person and he is the direct object)
Encontrar (ue) * to find encontrar a mis amigos = to find my friends ( also a personal a)
* the stem change to ue in the I YOU HESHE IT UD, and THEY forms is ONLY in the present tense. No stem changes in Preterite and Imperfect.
Begin BUSCANDO A NEMO.... listen and read subtitles and be able to speak and write about the movie, answer questions, make a summary, have a discussion. We will be doing this throughout the semester.
LOOK AT VOCAB p 68 and p 96 in the book for a good review.
Friday: 19 enero Direct and indirect object pronouns and reflexive pronouns
check November 14 and 15 entries for another iintroduction/ review of these pronouns.
We worked with these sentences to see how to use direct object pronouns.
I have to do homework today because i didn't do it yesterday. Tengo que hacer la tarea hoy porque no la hice ayer.
He loves her. La quiere.
The dog bit me ( morder+ to bite) El perro me mordio'.
We need milk and bread and we can't find them. Necesitamos la leche y el pan y no podemos encontrarlos.
As you can see, ME TE and NOS are all the same and don't worry you much whether they are direct or indirect objects. But in the third person, you have to know!
Indirect objects can be identified by seeing if you can insert TO or FOR infront of the noun/pronoun. If so, you have an indirect object.
So, Mom read the kids a story. Or Mom read them a story.
Ask "Mom read WHAT?WHO?" answer: the story. That is your direct object ( She didn't read the kids!)
Can you use TO or FOR with "the kids" and make sense? Mom read to the kids a story. YES! That's your indirect object. So you use LES.
Mama les leyo' a los ninos un cuento. TO THE KIDS is really a prepositional phrase.
Who told you that? Who told what/ who? Who told THAT? Another way to think about it is.... what came out of their mouth? YOU? no! THAT. THAT is the direct object and YOU is the indirect object.
For word order, everybody follows the same rules as we learned for reflexives:
1.0 Pronoun comes in Front of the conjugated verb.
2.0 Attach the pronoun to the end of the infinitive form.
Remember your anchors are
1) that you already know how to use GUSTA ME GUSTA TE GUSTA LE GUSTA NOS GUSTA LES GUSTA and these pronouns are you INDIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS. you have been saying that things ARE PLEASING to me, to you to him, to us, to them. And that is why you need to use A in front of Maria when you say Maria likes to sing. because you are really saying that to sing is pleasing to Maria. So you have to say "A Maria le gusta cantar."
2) You know that ME TE LE NOS LES always come in front of the verb. And you learned that for reflexives, you ATTACH the pronoun to the end of the verb when you use the verb in the infinitive form.
All three sets of pronouns here will be placed in a sentence according to these rules!
HOMEWORK: last semester final to review what we learned and correct problems.
You will be writing the sentences below in Spanish. You may use notes, BUT if you need to use your notes, that means you need to study that lesson so you don't need notes on the test. So study. The objective of this homework is to be sure you know all this stuff:
:*PRESENT TENSE ENDINGS -AR, -ER , --IR
* CONSTRUCTIONS:
TENER QUE + INFINITIVE ( to have to do something); IR A + INFINITIVE ( going to do something) ; ACABAR DE + INFINITIVE ( to have just done something); HACE (a period of time ) QUE ( present tense ) (to say how long something has been happening).

1) What time are your friends arriving? Do you want to come to my house?
2. We have just bought these shoes. Do you like them?
3. My family has been living in Evergreen for 8 years.
